The Cultural Ambassador initiative is an attempt to showcase the colorful Garba and Dandiya folk dances to the mainstream Central Ohio community. As part of this event, we urge our member families to invite one individual of non-South Asian descent to Garba & Dandiya event. The invitee’s entry fee is on GMOCO. Let’s share this traditional, colorful, and fun event with our neighbors, friends, and colleagues.
The host family must be an active GMOCO member. All invitees must be registered prior to the event, no walk-ins, please! If the invitee is a minor, their parents/guardian must approve their attendance.

Folk dancing is an integral part of any celebration in the Gujarati culture and Garba is the go-to dance. Garba is performed in a circular pattern and characterized by a sweeping action from side to side. The dancers move counterclockwise in circles and if space is constrained dancers form concentric circles with their unique sequence of steps but in the same rhythm as everyone else.
If you’ve been waiting on the sidelines trying to learn the dance steps, wait no more! GMOCO will be organizing free workshops before Navratri for anyone who wants to learn Garba and Dandiya.
Registration is required, and limited spots are available.
